A 23-year-old Girl

Adapted from a recipe by Foxyie Wong, The Soul, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China.A 23-year-old Girl

“This is my cocktail awarded the champion in 2012 Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition China Final in January, 2013.

It is said in Cuba that Rum can turn a girl from as cold as marble to be tender and soft as water, especially the Bacardi Superior Light Rum, with the pure sugarcane flavor as well as its smooth characteristic.  This cocktail is a birthday present for my 23-year-old ex-girlfriend.  Having just graduated from college, she has been working hard for herself and her family. She felt tired and lost.  Through this cocktail I hope her to keep the pureness, spotlessness and dreams inside her heart no matter what troubles may happen in the reality.

So when you taste this cocktail, you may feel very special flavour in the beginning while the fresh after tasting.  What’s more, when some drinkers taste this cocktail, they may be moved by the story and even recall their memories when they were fallen in love in the past time.” Foxyie Wong.

Ground black pepper, to rim half of a chilled cocktail glass

20 grams (just under 1 ounce) fresh cucumber cubes

45 ml (1.5 oz) Bacardi Superior Light Rum

10 ml (.33oz) fresh lemon juice

30 ml ( 1 0z) tomato juice

30 ml (1 oz) Touareg (Mint) Tea Syrup*

1 cucumber peel twist, as garnish

Gently muddle the cucumber cubes in a shaker.  Add ice and the rest of the ingredients.  Shake well and double strain into the pre-prepared glass.  Add the garnish.

* Touareg (Mint) Tea Syrup

Dissolve 2 cups of sugar into one cup of hot, brewed Touareg tea.  Allow to cool and refrigerate.

gaz sez:    How many people create drinks for their ex-girlfriends, huh?  Nice touch, Foxyie!  Nice drink, too, with a very unusual combination of ingredients.  Tomato juice and mint tea together in the same glass?  Who’d have thunk it?  Works very well indeed, though.  Foxyie, I think, is a bartender we’ll hear much more about in the future.
